1972 was the first year of production of the 1303 CABRIOLET model. This two-door Beetle (also known as BUG, SUPERBUG) is manual transmission and has a 1.570 liter engine. The mileage is displayed at 2447 (we assume the mileage has turned over, but the current owner noted that the car has only been driven approximately 200 miles in the past twenty years). The vehicle identification number is 1522492921. Reference: The Design Encyclopedia, Mel Byars, ppg. 557, 558. Information obtained from the consignor: The car was purchased approximately twenty-two years ago in Alabama by the consignor’s father. The consignor's father had owned multiple Beetles during the consignor’s childhood and always looked for special versions of the Beetle. The consignor's father had the body disassembled and repainted while the car was stored in Alabama (the consignor noted that there was very little rust on the body when it was repainted). When his father became ill, the project stopped, and the car remained stored for approximately fifteen years. The consignor had the car shipped to West Palm Beach where he took over the project and had the top replaced (but kept the original hardware) and seats reupholstered (also kept consistent with the original). The consignor stated that, where possible, he replaced parts with older parts. The consignor also noted that in general the car runs well, but noted that the driver’s window needs adjustment and that it is probably time for a tune-up.
