Inspired by John Butler’s American Dance Theatre production of 'Three Promenades with the Lord,' Andy Warhol (1928-1987) created this original pen-and-ink drawing for his friend, Glen Tetley, who was a principal dancer in the ballet when it premiered in 1954. After studying with luminaries like Mr. Butler and Martha Graham, Mr. Tetley became an original member of the Joffrey Ballet and later a world-renowned choreographer in his own right, creating over fifty works for major dance companies worldwide, including American Ballet Theatre, The Royal Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre, and many more.
