Lithograph, still life of lantern, sea urchin and trident by Bernard Buffet (1927-1999). Gallery label to reverse; B. Altman & Co. Gallery, New York. With spare and instantly recognizable style, his work has been presented in major venues for decades, from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1954) to the first retrospective for a living artist at the Hermitage (1991), from a gallery at the Vatican to two museums devoted solely to his work in Japan (the first in 1973).
