Additional Information: The one-of-a-kind prototype cabinet has two paneled doors opening to reveal five adjustable shelves, with two lower drawers fitted with interior dividers. Provenance:  The Rack Type Cabinet was designed and handcrafted in 2000 by Robert “Bob” Biggs (1946–2020), a Los Angeles–born artist, furniture maker, and influential founder of Slash Records. Biggs studied fine art at UCLA, exhibited his work in Los Angeles galleries, and built furniture before establishing Slash Records in 1978. Under his direction, the pioneering independent label helped bring Los Angeles punk and alternative music to an international audience, releasing landmark recordings by artists including the Germs, X, Los Lobos, Violent Femmes, and Faith No More. This one-of-a-kind cabinet reflects the same independent spirit and strong, functional design sensibility that characterized Biggs’s work across visual art, furniture, and music.

The cabinet's restrained wood construction reflects American Shaker and studio-furniture traditions, with similarities to the clean, functional work of makers such as Thomas Moser.
