James Rosenquist was an influential American artist and a leading figure of the Pop Art movement, known for monumental paintings that transformed the visual language of advertising into complex works of fine art. Before establishing his studio practice, Rosenquist worked as a commercial billboard painter in New York, an experience that profoundly influenced his use of dramatic scale, vivid color, and fragmented imagery.

Drawing from advertisements, photographs, magazines, consumer products, and popular culture, he juxtaposed seemingly unrelated images to explore themes of consumerism, technology, politics, and contemporary American life. His celebrated works include the monumental F-111 (1964–65), and his work is represented in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
