Additional Information: "When beginning our collection we had no definite focus except an enjoyment derived from these magnificent pieces individually. As time passed we realized that each piece cried for a companion and each companion demanded another and so forth. It became a community of each piece juxtaposing itself against another, and another. We view them as sculpture in a most primal sense. Their simplicity is calming to the spirit and dominates as well as infiltrates the space around them!" - Consignor's notes on their collection, which at one time numbered thirty-eight pieces.
The "Kanak" and "Alau" vessels offered as consecutive lots in this sale are from a large and noteworthy collection out of Phoenix, Arizona. The collection was featured in the May 1999 issue of "Phoenix Home & Garden," a photo of which is included in the detail images.
