Additional Information: "When beginning our collection we had no definite focus except an enjoyment derived from these magnificent pieces individually. As time passed we realized that each piece cried for a companion and each companion demanded another and so forth. It became a community of each piece juxtaposing itself against another, and another. We view them as sculpture in a most primal sense. Their simplicity is calming to the spirit and dominates as well as infiltrates the space around them!

'Kimen' is an early piece, I think because of how the piece was finished and the minimal incising and rough finish and lack of color and shape compared to other pieces we have throughout our collection. 'Oxancil' is a transition form unlike his primary shapes. It is elongated and you can see in the 'Nakum' piece how he ultimately combined the sphere and tubular forms into an elongated cylinder like 'Nakum.' You might note that with the 'Oxancil' the refined textural variations and the shape of the piece itself lends itself to an elegant silhouette.'Nakum' is an example of Claude Conover's desire to combine texture, linear elements with form and subtle color."
- Consignor's notes on their collection, which at one time numbered thirty-eight pieces.

The "Oxancil," "Kimen" and "Nakum" vessels offered in this sale are from a large and noteworthy collection out of Phoenix, Arizona. The collection was featured in the May 1999 issue of "Phoenix Home & Garden," a photo of which is included in the detail images.
