Provenance: Collection of Leslie & Ramon Pina, Beachwood, Ohio.
Leslie Pina has authored over fifty books on 20th-century design, each focused on a specific area she and her husband Ramon personally collected and studied. Her obsession with color and design began early in life. She followed in her mother’s footsteps to attend the Cleveland Institute of Art on a scholarship, the start of an “endless academic career” and the ideal outlet for her drive to collect, study, and write.
While in graduate school, Leslie went to Puerto Vallarta and met her future husband Ramon. They shared a passion for beauty in nature and in art. “We learned and wrote about many topics: Italian, Scandinavian, and American glass, Art Deco designs, Mexican silver, Herman Miller furniture, and so on. We traveled around the United States to photograph private and museum collections. That said, Murano glass was and still is our favorite.”
The selection of Murano glass offered in this auction was amassed over 30-40 years, most collected prior to the mid-1990s, and reflects the contents of four of Leslie Pina’s books. Palm Beach Modern Auctions would like to thank Dr. Pina for sharing her personal stories about her time as an educator, writer, and collector, and her love of beautiful objects.
