The consignor commissioned the painting from the artist in 1971 while she was visiting family in Coral Gables, Florida. This was the artist's earliest horse painting, a subject that has since become one of her primary areas of focus. The consignor recalls, "We took photos and she did quick sketches at the Clubhouse Horse Turn at Hialeah Racetrack back in the early 70's...and she produced this oil later that summer."
