Additional Information: Wayne Alfred is a Kwakwaka'wakw artist from the Alert Bay area of British Columbia, Canada. He is known for his wall carvings, face masks and totem poles as well as for his singing and native dancing. Shamans of various indigenous tribes in the Northwest believed that killing a sisiutl would transfer its healing magic to them, and warriors would often accessorize their garb with images of the sisiutl for protection. Provenance: Collection of a retired yacht broker, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, acquired in the sale of a vessel that traveled the Alaska/British Columbia/Panama Canal/Florida route.
