Additional Information: Work is from the "Czech Workers" series. Documentary photographer Margaret Bourke-White was the first female war correspondent/photojournalist on record in the United States and the first foreign photographer permitted to record images during the Soviet Five Year Plan. She worked for
Fortune and
Life magazines and documented world history including the Dust Bowl, the Korean War, the India-Pakistan partition and World War II. (source: Wikipedia) Provenance: Private Collection, Palm Beach, Florida. Consignor purchased this photograph and several others from the series from an individual who worked directly with the artist. He donated four to Lafayette College Art Galleries, Easton, Pennsylvania, where they remain, but "saved this work because it was the strongest with the most movement and fluidity...it also references so much of her work in
Life Magazine.
