Additional Information: The Sutro Baths in San Francisco, California were a glass-enclosed ocean pool built into the rocks north of the second Cliff House resort. Developed in 1894 by Adolph Sutro, the massive structure could accommodate 10,000 swimmers at once in its seven pools and offered slides, diving boards and trapezes for recreation as well as other entertainments and historical exhibits. The baths were closed during the Great Depression then converted to an ice skating rink before developers slated the site for a high-rise apartment building, which was destroyed in a fire in 1966. The ruins of the Baths are now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Reference: www.nps.gov/goga/learn/historyculture/sutro-baths.htm
