Sergio Rodrigues (1927-2014), a pioneer of Brazilian Modern design who founded the company Oca in Rio de Janeiro in 1956, utilized the finest of indigenous materials and craftsmanship to create his innovative works. After architects Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa populated their buildings in the new capital city of Brasilia with Rodrigues’ furniture later in that decade, international recognition followed.
