Will Barnet was a seminal figure in American modernism, known for his serene, introspective compositions that balance abstraction and figuration. Interlude, a signed 1982 serigraph, exemplifies Barnet’s signature style — depicting quiet moments of contemplation with graphic clarity, soft geometry, and poetic restraint. His work shares visual affinities with artists such as Milton Avery, Alex Katz, and Ben Shahn, all of whom embraced reductive form and emotional stillness through flattened space and distilled line.
