"I inherited an appreciation for design from my mother, and my early access to the topic led me to an article about the Bauhaus movement. I became fascinated with the transition to modernity, the innovations in architecture, materials, manufacturing processes and urban lifestyle, and devoured material on the period. My first purchase was a pair of Wassily chairs. I was thrilled by how they seemed to transport me into the era that birthed them.

When a move presented the opportunity to create a second environment, I gravitated towards pre-war American design. I was especially taken by the great innovators of the day, Gilbert Rohde especially, but also Wolfgang Hoffmann, Nessen, Saarinen, Russel Wright, Kurt Versen and others. As I deepened my knowledge, I found myself also drawn to some of the lesser known great American designers like Eugene Schoen and James Mont. A recent move to a smaller house prompted me to pare down my collection. Maintaining and restoring yesterday's decorative arts preserves not only our culture but the environment, another of my passions. I built my habitat of lovingly rescued and maintained pieces without sacrificing personal taste, comfort or contemporary style, using the services of small business artisans to do the restoration."
