After serving in the United States Army, Burt Glinn studied literature at Harvard University and worked for LIFE Magazine before becoming a freelancer. In 1954 he became a full member of the highly selective organization Magnum Photos, whose rolls include Eve Arnold, Henri Cartier Bresson, and Paul Fusco, where he served as president twice in the 1970s and 1980s.
