Artist/Designer; Manufacturer: Mike Starn, Doug Starn, aka Starn Brothers / Starn Twins (b. 1961) (American, b. 1961)
Marking(s); notes: no marking(s) apparent (see additional information)
Materials: paper (printing technique unknown)
Dimensions (H, W, D): 16.5"h, 32.5"w; 19.25"h, 35.25"w frame
Additional Information: Photographic diptych is an installation view from the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled Big Bambu: "You Can't, You Don't, and You Won't Stop." The monumental bamboo structure in the form of a cresting wave measured 100 feet long, 50 feet high and 50 feet wide and was created over the span of three seasons, with visitors intended to witness the process. Per the exhibition press release, "The ephemeral state of the work will be documented by the artists in various scale photographs and video." A cropped section of this image was featured in the May 2010 "Design Boom" article on the exhibit. The consignor was advised by the gallery of provenance that the two Starn Twins works offered consecutively in this auction were framed by the artists. Accordingly, we have not removed the frame to examine the back for any markings or to further detail the medium. Provenance: Wetterling Gallery, New York, New York | Personal collection of a Boca Raton, Florida designer, Castle Design Group, acquired at Art Miami circa 2014-2015.
