Additional Information: Work is titled "Une Rue de Village." Per the consignor: "I purchased this painting in 2017 from Hotel Drouot. At one point I inquired with them who the original owner was and they declined stating client privilege. They did tell me the original owner had the painting repaired on 1966 and it had been in a Parisian family. The painting was with Bruce Wood (Woodshed Gallery) in Franklin, Massachusetts. They had done several tests one to determine the age of the paint it was consistent with the timeline of Corot. Another test with infrared transference photography discovered the painting had two tears in the lower left corner and that was the reason for the relining. An underpainting was also discovered with corrections from the artist. This is important because early examination by experts had thought this painting was the second description in the catalogue raisonne as a commissioned copy of an earlier piece. Copied by Demur, a student and studio assistant of Corot. The catalogue clearly states the painting was finished by Corot's hand. As you might know this was common practice especially with artists like Rubens. The underpainting discovered by infrared transference photography corroborates that the painting was not a copy, but an original composition with drawing corrections." Provenance: Private Collection, Paris, France | Hotel Drouot, Paris, France (purchased in 2017) | Private Collection, Evanston, Illinois.
