We would like to thank Mr. Edoardo Berardi of Rimini, Italy, noteworthy historian of the artist's life and work, for providing the following statement about this work: "In the summer of 1960 Peggy Guggenheim organized a personal exhibition at her home (now the Guggenheim Museum in Venice) with recent works by Congdon. There are no catalogs for this exhibition, there are no lists for this exhibition, there are no photographs. It was a private exhibition of the collector for his numerous friends. It is very probable that this painting was present as it was painted in the Venice studio at that time. At the end of the exhibition, Congdon gave Peggy a painting, a "Cambodia" that is still in the Guggenheim Museum in Venice. I found two other exhibitions where the work was exhibited: Fellowship Annual Exhibit of oil paintings, sculpture, watercolors & graphic, (March 10- April 9, 1961), Philadelphia; William Congdon Paintings from the Fifties., (April 4- 30, 1991), Bill Bace Gallery, New York."
