Additional Information: Work is titled "Venice Canal 1953." Provenance: Consignor purchased the four Congdon paintings (lots 153-156) together from a New York/Florida estate.
We would like to thank Mr. Edoardo Berardi of Rimini, Italy, noteworthy historian of the artist's life and work, for providing the following statement about this work: "In the early 1950s, the artist lived and traveled with Gianni Silvestri. While Gianni began his career as a painter, Congdon and Silvestri did collaborative works. Few works are known like this, perhaps twenty or thirty total."
