Additional Information: Rolph Scarlett began his art career as a jewelry maker and figurative painter, transitioning in the 1920s to abstraction after meeting Paul Klee. In 1937, he became acquainted with Hilla Rebay. As director of the Museum of Non-Objective Painting (later renamed the Guggenheim Museum) in New York, she acquired several of his works for their collection and offered him a scholarship and speaking position giving Sunday afternoon talks on art.
